Chapter 120
Myles POV
I woke with a start with my heart was racing, and sweat was cold on my skin, and for a second I didn’t know where I was. The dream still clung to me as Serena’s face was there, streaked with tears. She had been calling my name, begging me to help her, and then darkness swallowed her and I jolted awake.
I sat up on the edge of the bed and rubbed my face. Paul and Mary’s guest room was small but neat, and they had given me clean sheets and a blanket. My bandages felt tight across my ribs. Mary had cleaned the burns and cuts last night, but they still ached every time I moved.
I groaned and pushed myself to my feet. I reached for the painkillers they left on the nightstand and swallowed two with a sip of water, and for a moment, I just stood there staring at the dark window. Serena was out there somewhere, maybe hurt, maybe worse and I couldn’t sit here while she needed me.
I picked up the phone Paul had given me and tried Serena’s number again
