Chapter 25
Cassandra’s words hit her ex-boyfriend’s brain like an electric shock. He spent about ten solid seconds without even breathing at all, which made his friend genuinely worried. Then a simple, sharp nudge to his side brought him back to reality.
“Ummm…” he started, stammering like a broken record all of a sudden because his brain was still in the process of accepting the shock. “Actually, yes, and I have a class to get to anyway, so you kids have fun without me,” he said, and in the blink of an eye, he was gone, leaving the two of them alone together, hoping his best friend would find his tongue.
“How are you doing?” he asked, feeling stupid for saying the most cliché conversation starter that came to his mind. “I mean, are you still… umm… mad at me?” he said, trying to figure out why she was approaching him all of a sudden. But then he realized that he didn’t even have her attention, and he was basically talking to himself.
