Chapter 13
Davis
The sky was bright and clear, and the sun’s rays pierced the air. Everyone could feel the burn from it as it made sweat ooze from their skin.
But not Davis. It was the second day since he fell sick.
He was on the bed, shivering with a blanket over him. Allison offered to bathe him that day, but he objected to that. He couldn’t let down his pride. She knew he set the water to be the warmest temperature, and she called him a coward.
She couldn’t see him but could hear as he struggled to wear his clothes. It was probably hard for him because he cursed a little. It was funny even when she had seen him naked before. A bowl of water was set beside the bed stand, and a towel was placed in it.
She soaked it in water and squeezed it dry, placing it on his burning forehead. He squirmed, feeling the coldness that made him shiver more.
“It’s funny, you know,” he said, with his eyes closed.
