“Shimma, drop it!” he shouted, his eyes red with rage. I had never seen him like that before. Never!

“Lucas, please!” Shimma cried, the gun shaking in her hands. “This isn’t you!”

He hesitated, just for a moment, as though her words had an effect on him, and that flicker of doubt was all I needed.
