Chapter 32
Alex’s eyes popped and his mouth hung long at her shivering body, and then a smile, as if of mockery, overcome his surprise and he winked. Only a little, he was frightened at her fury that made her voice and manner change. He could not have told himself that he would have done what he did, for he did not know he would do it.
“I’m sorry.” He muttered.
They continued to crawl into the darkness of the tunnel...cool as if a palace hall, slow light and silence, corridors of green-black stone. He crawled behind her.
It was only after she felt a brisk touch over her neck that she got her wits again. “Like I’m supposed to believe there is something and it just happens to be in the tunnel we are crawling in and then on my neck? Any other creature-feature props you’d like to reference? Is there a salamander tangled up in there? I’m beginning to believe you.”
He didn’t talk. He just pretended as if she wasn’t talking to him.
“Keep moving forward, please. I am tire
