Ace did not like what Clary had just said but he knew that she was being honest. And even if it was in his case, he would have wanted the same. “What would it take for you to stay; to stay here at the mansion?” 

Clary made a small throaty sound and then proceeded to stand to her feet. “You really want to know? The truth is that I don’t know. I really don’t know. But what I do know is that I need time by myself. I need to be able to think.” 

“But you can do that here, you can. I swear you won’t even know that I’m there. I would ignore you if that is what you want.” 

Clary unlocked the door and opened it. “That is not the point. All I’m asking you for right now is for you to leave me alone. Can you do that, Ace?”
