Chapter 122

Briar’s POV

"To fully merge with your siren, you do know what you need to do? And the fact that human part of you that is... emotional would be eliminated?" Darius asked, his red eyes studying my face carefully.

"What do you mean eliminated?" I asked, though part of me already knew the answer.

"The human consciousness you’ve been clinging to—the part that feels guilt, that second-guesses every decision, that wants to be loved and accepted—it would cease to exist," Darius explained. "When you fully merge with your siren nature, there’s no going back. You become what you were always meant to be, but you lose what you think makes you... you."

I considered this, feeling the siren consciousness practically vibrating with anticipation in my mind. The human part of me—the part that loved my children desperately, that craved my mates’ approval, that felt crushing guilt over every violent impulse—would simply disappear.
