I focused on the shelf filled with files across from me and said, "Well, whatever. How are you?"
"No, the bigger question is how are you?" That was understandable, but it would still be nice to know how everyone was doing at home.
"I'm fine. I can't complain. What about you guys now?" I could hear his skepticism when he asked, “Really?”
I even told the truth, after all, I was fine again now. The wounds had healed and I was like new.
"Yes. Now speak up." He took a deep breath and there was a certain relief in his voice: "Thank the goddess."
Before I had to ask again, he replied: "We're all fine. Everything's the same. Just that you're missed." "I hope so too, otherwise I would have felt neglected." I tried to keep my sense of humor, otherwise I would have cried. Homesickness hit me with such force that my heart ached.
Thanks to the last few days, I've barely been able to deal with it. Then it hit me even harder.
