Maddy’s POV

I sat on the edge of the sofa, my fingers trembling slightly as I watched Logan grow weaker. He tried to focus on me, his sharp eyes dimming by the second. I felt a pang of guilt, but I quickly pushed it aside.

This wasn’t about me…it was about Layla.

The memory of Layla’s desperate voice over the phone flashed through my mind. It had been a few days ago, her voice trembling as she begged for help.

“Maddy,” she had whispered. “They’ve got me. You have to save me.”

“What? Who?” I had stammered, my heart racing.

But before she could answer, the line went dead. Panic surged through me, and I’d bolted out of my apartment, heading straight for hers. When I arrived, the place was empty. It felt cold, abandoned, as if she’d never been there.

Then my phone rang. I grabbed it with shaking hands, my pulse pounding in my ears.
