Layla’s POV
It was the only place I could think of where I had tried to reach out, and I hadn’t succeeded.
When I reached the glass door, I hesitated for a moment before pushing it open. The fluorescent lights inside flickered slightly, casting a dim glow over the worn-out chairs and scuffed floors.
I walked to the same phone I had used earlier, picked up the receiver, and dialed the number again.
The line rang and rang, the sound echoing in my ears. I closed my eyes, willing her to pick up. But after what felt like an eternity, the call went unanswered.
A lump formed in my throat as I hung up the phone. My hands trembled as I leaned against the counter, tears streaming down my face. I felt so lost, so utterly alone. What am I supposed to do now?
