Layla’s POV

The image of Logan at the ice cream shop flashed in my mind. The way he’d looked at that little boy, so full of warmth and affection, like he was the most important thing in the world. I’d seen that look before, but it had been directed at me once.

And now, it was gone.

“Jason,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “Do you think… do you think that boy is his son?”

Jason’s jaw tightened, and I could see the conflict in his eyes. He didn’t want to answer, but I needed to hear the truth, no matter how much it hurt.

“I don’t know,” he said finally, his voice careful. “But it doesn’t matter, Layla. What matters is that you’re here now, and you’re not alone. You have people who care about you, who will stand by you no matter what.”

His words were meant to comfort me, but they only made the weight in my chest heavier. Jason was so good to me, always there when I needed him, always ready to pick up the pieces
