Layla’s POV

I nodded, smiling up at him. “Yeah, I did. Thanks for letting her come over.”

He shrugged. “Anything to make you happy, Layla.”

His words hung in the air, and for a moment, I felt a pang of guilt. He did so much for me, yet I wasn’t sure if I could give him what he wanted in return.

“Jason,” I began, but he cut me off with a gentle smile.

“Don’t worry about it,” he said. “Just focus on taking care of yourself and the baby. That’s all I need.”

I nodded, though my heart felt heavy. As he walked away, I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d ever be able to give him the love he deserved.

The sterile smell of the hospital clung to me as I stepped out of the doctor’s office, clutching a small piece of paper with my next appointment date scrawled on it. 

My heart felt heavy, but at the same time, a small flicker of hope burned within me.
