Isabella’s POV
Tears pricked at my eyes, but I blinked them away. “Damien, listen to me. That woman is dangerous. She’s not your mommy. I am. Do you understand?”
He shook his head, his sobs growing louder. “No! I want her! I want her!”
I bit my lip, trying to hold back my own tears. “Damien, you’re my son, and I love you. Please, don’t say things like that.”
But he didn’t respond. He just cried, his small body trembling with each sob.
As I drove away, Carol’s broken figure faded into the distance, but her cries lingered in my ears, haunting me.
For the first time, I felt the decision of what I’d done.
The tension in the car was suffocating as I drove home. Damien’s small frame was slumped in the seat beside me, his tear-streaked face turned toward the window.
His little sniffles were like daggers to my chest, but I couldn’t afford to let his emotions sway me. I had to take control.
