Jason’s POV
I leaned against the cold hospital wall, my legs barely able to hold me up. The doctor’s words echoed in my mind, each one slicing through me like a blade.
“It’s touch and go.” I couldn’t stop my hands from trembling as I ran them through my hair, my heart hammering in my chest.
I couldn’t lose her. I wouldn’t lose her. But what if I did? What would happen to me? What would happen to little Jason? How would I explain to him that his mother wasn’t coming back?
The thought made my stomach churn, and I felt an overwhelming wave of nausea.
“No,” I whispered to myself, shaking my head as if to rid my mind of the dark thoughts. “This doesn’t make sense. Layla wouldn’t do this. She wouldn’t try to take her own life.”
