Layla’s POV

Little Jason ran over, his face flushed from all the running. "Mommy, did you see how fast I was?" he asked, beaming with pride.

I brushed his hair back gently. "I did, sweetheart. You’re the fastest boy I know."

Little Jason giggled, leaning into my touch.

Jason came closer, his eyes studying me. "You sound serious," he said. "What’s up?"

I hesitated for a moment before finally saying, "I’m leaving tomorrow."

"Leaving?" Jason repeated.

I nodded. "Maddy’s waiting for me in Puerto Rico. I promised her I’d come as soon as Little Jason was better. And he’s fine now."
