Logan’s POV

Her smile faltered just a little, and she let out a small sigh. “Yeah… I don’t really remember much of my past, though. I had an accident a while back. Lost a lot of my memories.”

My fingers twitched.

An accident?

Memory loss?

I forced myself to remain calm, but my heart was already hammering in my chest again.

Layla…my Layla…had disappeared years ago. I had been told she was dead. But what if… what if she wasn’t? What if she had survived, but had no idea who she really was?

I needed to keep her talking.

I couldn’t push too hard, not yet. If she really had lost her memories, bombarding her with questions wouldn’t help.

Instead, I leaned back, pretending to be relaxed. “That’s rough,” I said. “Must be hard, not remembering things.”

She nodded. “Yeah, it is. Sometimes I get these flashes…like déjà vu, you know? But nothing ever really sticks.”

I clenched my jaw.
