Jason’s POV
For a moment, the tension in my chest eased. I forced a smile, ruffling his hair as I sat down beside him. “Morning, champ.”
He grinned, his face smeared with strawberry jam. “Can I have more toast?”
I chuckled, nodding to one of the maids. “Give him as much as he wants.”
The maid quickly brought over another plate of toast, and Little Jason’s eyes widened with delight. He dug in, his cheeks puffed out as he chewed.
I watched him, my heart aching. He was so happy, so carefree. He had no idea about the danger lurking in the shadows, no idea that his life was about to change.
I looked away, my jaw tightening. I was doing the right thing. I had to believe that. Even if it meant hurting him now, it was better than losing him forever.
After breakfast, I told the maids to get him ready. They bathed him, dressed him in his school uniform, and packed his backpack, all while he chattered away, oblivious to my growing anxi
