Maddie's POV

How could I tell her that the man she was falling for was the same man who shattered her life? How could I break her heart all over again?

She moved closer, her eyes searching my face. 

“Maddy… what’s wrong?”

I looked away, pretending to adjust the pillow behind me. But I couldn’t avoid her gaze for long. 

I could feel her eyes burning into me, demanding an answer. She deserved the truth. She deserved to know why I couldn’t share in her happiness.

But how could I tell her the truth when I wasn’t even sure of it myself? What if I was wrong? 

What if I was letting my own hatred for Logan cloud my judgment? I took a deep breath, my heart pounding as I looked up at her.

“I… I don’t know, Layla,” I said softly, my voice trembling. 

“I just… I just don’t like him.”

Layla’s eyes widened in shock. “You don’t like him? But… but why?”

I hesitated, the words tangled in my throat.
