Chapter 718
Maddie's POV
I couldn’t help but notice how gentle his voice was, how careful his words were. It didn’t sound like the voice of a heartless man. It didn’t sound like the Logan I remembered.
But I couldn’t let that distract me. People changed. People learned to mask their intentions. And Logan was an expert at that.
“I’m glad to hear that,” he said, his voice carrying a hint of relief.
“I was worried you might still be upset with me… for yesterday.”
Layla glanced at me, her eyes questioning, and I mouthed, “Be honest.”
She hesitated, then cleared her throat. “Well… I was. You stood me up, and it didn’t feel good. You didn’t even call or text to explain.”
His sigh echoed through the speaker, heavy with regret.
“I know, Layla. I’m really sorry. Things got complicated at work, and I… I didn’t handle it well. I should’ve called. I should’ve told you what was going on. I hate that I made you feel that way.”
