Maddie’s POV
"Of course," I whispered, sitting beside him.
He held onto my hand, his little fingers warm against mine. Within minutes, his breathing evened out, and his grip loosened.
He was asleep.
I exhaled slowly, carefully pulling my hand away before standing up.
I needed to think.
I needed to do something.
I grabbed my phone again and paced the living room, hitting redial over and over, but Layla’s phone was still off. Jason’s, too.
Damn it.
I chewed on my lip, my nerves fraying with each passing second.
Should I call the police? No. That was too extreme. But what if…?
I shook my head, pushing that thought away. I wasn’t going to assume the worst yet.
