Maxine’s POV

"You should go let her know. I'll wait here so you guys can talk. Or better still, I'll leave." I offered.

"Thanks for all you do, Maxine. Thank you." He said.

"Don't mention. What are friends for?" I said. I left the room.

Ella was still in the kitchen, cleaning. My thought was that she was trying to keep herself busy.

But I knew that she was thinking about Tobias. No amount of cleaning solution could get him out of her head.

I walked over to her and hugged her. "I've got to go. Thank you for the meal. Talk to Tobias." I jutted my chin back as he came out of his room. "I'll see you later."

"Get home safe, Maxine. I'll try to stop by your new place soon. Thanks for coming over." Ella said, her voice down.

I could tell from the look on her face that she had been crying. I placed my hand on her cheek. "Everything's going to be fine," I assured her. "I promise."
