Chapter 111
Maxine’s POV
"This court will recess for deliberation. A decision will be reached within the hour."
The world seemed to shrink as the heavy oak door swung shut. Marie, sensing my panic, buried herself into my side. I stroked her hair, telling her that she would soon go home with her mom.
Finally, an hour passed and the door creaked open. The judge entered the room. He settled behind his desk, his eyes scanning the room before landing on Lindsey and then Mark.
My breath caught in my throat. Lindsey's face held terror and hope, a likely mirror of my face.
"Lindsey Davies, Mark Oxborn," the alpha began, his voice heavy with anticipation. "The court has reached a decision."
He paused. Marie tilted her head at the sound of her mother's name, her big brown eyes curious. My grip tightened on her hand.
"Regarding the custody of Marie Davies, the court had decided that…"
