Maxine’s POV
"I could teach you a lesson." He threatened, quirking one of his eyebrows.
"Do whatever you want. It still wouldn't force me to make jasmine tea for you whenever you come over." I replied, still using a neutral tone.
Liam smiled, genuinely smiled. It took me aback and it caused my heart to do weird things. It was the first time he was smiling like this. To me. I felt like I had accomplished something.
"Are you mad because I said no?" He asked. He was staring at me but I refused to look.
"I'm not that petty," I said. "Master." The way I said it made it seem a bit like I was mocking him.
"Oh, you're mad." He chuckled. He was definitely in a good mood. I wasn't expecting this reply.
"No," I argued. "I'm not."
"Okay. Well, I'll have you know that I put in a good word for Lindsey. I told him to do the right thing but he should consider how it would feel for a child to grow apart from their caregiver." He replie
