Chapter 110
Maxine’s POV
Lindsey said nothing. Silence stretched between us after the hollow words I had just given. Neither of us truly believed it. Mark had a way more stable business compared to Lindsey's job. He was in a better position to take care of her.
Another tear rolled down Lindsey's cheek. My heart ached for her in a way it never had before. I could feel her pain.
I could see the weight of the future she had imagined with her daughter begin to shatter in front of her. I was a powerless observer. I couldn't do anything.
"Okay." She nodded. "I'm going to fight with everything I've got."
I stopped in front of the cafe and read the sign. It was Howl's Cafe. I had managed to get a hold of Mark and convinced him to see me. It had taken a lot to make him come here today. I hoped he was here.
