Maxine’s POV
I reached out to squeeze Lindsey's hand. "I understand, Lindsey. It's natural to worry, especially as a parent. But you're doing an amazing job. Marie is lucky to have you."
Lindsey smiled gratefully. "I just hope this all gets resolved soon. I want Marie to grow up in a world filled with peace, not conflict and danger."
"I hope so too," I agreed. "I wish there was more we could do to help."
We sat in thoughtful silence for a moment, the weight of our worries hanging in the air.
As we finished our tea and cookies, Marie rushed over with her completed drawing. "Look, Maxine! I colored it just for you!"
I beamed at Marie, accepting the drawing. "Thank you, Marie. It's absolutely beautiful, just like you."
Lindsey watched us with a tender smile, grateful. "Thank you for stopping by, Maxine. You always bring sunshine to our day."
