Chapter 71

Maxine’s POV

"This should start working in a few minutes," I said. I dipped my hand into the water bath to check the temperature. It was already lukewarm.

"More water!" I yelled, hoping that someone would hear me. They came in with more water, pouring it into the bath.

I checked it again. It was better. "That would be enough," I said.

I got on my knees next to the bath and held the woman's hand. "How are we doing?" I asked.

I needed to keep her awake for the herbs to do their work. She would be able to have her baby soon.

"I'm so tired and sleepy." She said to me with a weak voice. Her eyes were wet with unshed tears.

"There, there, it's almost over," I told her, patting her hair back. "What's your name?" I asked.
