Maxine’s POV

"This should start working in a few minutes," I said. I dipped my hand into the water bath to check the temperature. It was already lukewarm.

"More water!" I yelled, hoping that someone would hear me. They came in with more water, pouring it into the bath.

I checked it again. It was better. "That would be enough," I said.

I got on my knees next to the bath and held the woman's hand. "How are we doing?" I asked.

I needed to keep her awake for the herbs to do their work. She would be able to have her baby soon.
