Chapter 70

Maxine’s POV

"Wait," I told him. I returned to the house and prepared my bag. I didn't have herbs for childbirth but I had a few that were effective for pain and bleeding. They should come in handy.

"Lead the way," I told the slave as we began to walk. It took us a few minutes but we finally made it.

I could hear the pregnant woman's moans and cries. He led me to the front door where her husband was standing.

"Thank you so much for coming. She's in there." The man told me.

I nodded briefly and entered the room. The room was warm and the woman lay on the bed, her legs bent at the knee. She was covered in sweat and the midwife wiped sweat from her forehead.

"She's almost here." She told her. When she saw me, she stood to her feet.

"Good evening," I said, "What's wrong?"

"She's not dilating properly. And I think the baby hasn't turned completely. She doesn't have the strength to even push." The midwife explained.
