Maxine’s POV

"A gift." She replied, still smiling. "I can't just go empty-handed."

"Such a nice person." I teased her. We left the house and walked to the woman's house.

It took us some time but we made it. I knocked on the gate and a servant opened it. She recognized me so she let us into the compound before she went to inform her lord.

He came out of the house smiling. "It's so good to see you again." He said, grabbing my hand and shaking it.

I smiled back. He looked pointedly at Ella who greeted him. "Who is this?" He asked.

"Oh, this is Ella, my very close friend. She's here with me to see the baby. She's also pregnant." I said as some sort of explanation.

"Congratulations. Children are bundles of joy." the man said.

"Thank you," Ella replied, smiling genuinely.

"Come, my wife is in the living room with the baby. Come in, come in." He ushered us into the house and led us into the living room.
