Chapter 15

Imani's thoughts were spiraling out of control as she released the enchantress and ran ahead of Haru, who was carrying Kaito’s unconscious body in his arms.

She opened the door, stepping aside so that Haru could make it into the living room. The others, which were Cosmo, Murchadh, and Kaito’s cousins who are twins, sprang up from the chairs and rushed to assist Haru in placing Kaito down.

“I’ll go get the ointment.” Grandmother Yoshida sprinted into her room.

Akiko came out of her room and ran to Imani, hugging her with bold eyes that swam in tears.

“What is wrong with Kaito?” She squeaked, voice shaking as she tugged on Imani’s dress.

“He’s fine, he just needs to be treated.” Imani rubbed Akiko’s head. “You need to go to bed or you’ll be late for school tomorrow.”

She persuaded Akiko to head back to bed. “You know what they say, early to bed—”

“Early to rise.” Akiko completed Imani’s sentence and returned to her room.
