“You’re awake.” Akiko shrieked, running towards them. He thought she was going to hug him but instead, she wrapped her arms around Imani embracing her in a tight hug. Traitor.

When he turned to his grandma, she had her brows raised. He shrugged at her. He and Imani had been standing practically nose to nose with only the fabric of the clothes between them. Her mind was probably running wild with assumptions about what would have happened if she hadn’t walked in. Her assumptions were justified but very wrong. Depending on how reactive Imani was to insults and how good she was at magic, a huge fight could have broken out.

He cleared his throat. “That’s my little sister Akiko. And that’s my grandma. Grandma, Akiko, this is Imani.”

“Nice to meet you,” Imani cooed while patting Akiko’s hair. “And Kaito told me what you and the fairy did last night. Thank you so much,” she said to Grandma Yoshida in a respectful voice.

Kaito turned to look at her surprised that she
