"How long?" I asked in a restrained voice. Edward's eyes trembled slightly, as if he were containing his own burning sight. I wiped my eyes, sniffling softly. Edward didn't answer. Our hands remained united, and I noticed that he was slowly trying to let go, trying to move away so as not to give me false hopes. Because we both knew that he could really be on my side, but leaning on me to continue living was not one of the things that was going on in his head. He didn't want to use me in any way.
