Chapter 15
“Is there a problem?” She asked, tilting her head to the side and looking at him, awaiting a response. Uriah shook his head in denial but avoided her gaze.
“I have to go. I just recalled I have to do something,” he lied. Erin’s lips parted, but no words came out. Her heart thrummed painfully in her chest. She felt painful tingles in her palm and a sting of tears gathering in her eyes.
“Another rejection?” She heard herself say before she could stop. Realizing what she just said, she shut her mouth and wiped her eyes clean.
“I am not rejecting you, Erin. I just really have to go. I wouldn’t want us to do something we both will regret. Besides, I am still your boss, and you are still my employee,” he reiterated. She felt like her face had been splashed with cold water, forcing her back to the harsh reality of life. She took some steps back, ran a hand through her hair, and chewed on her upper lip.
