Rose’s POV

The morning air was cold, colder than I had expected. I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to keep warm as I stood in the shadow of a large oak tree, my eyes fixed on the sky. The field was very quiet, with only the occasional rustle of leaves breaking the silence. The quietness was something else, it was worse, making me feel more alone than ever.

I had made it this far without being caught, slipping away in the dead of night while the others slept. Every step I had taken away from the safety of the house, away from Alpha Kanen, Joe, Elise, and Raph, had felt heavier, as if I was dragging the weight of my decision behind me.
