Chapter 55. Brian’s Anger
I froze as I heard Brian's voice. He never came to my room except for the time I had fainted at the engagement party. I was scared out of my mind and afraid of what he would want.
“Come in,” my mother clipped as she sat on the couch, and I covered myself with the bedcover.
Brian slipped into the room, his face held high. He looked at my mother, who stood up and went to hug him, but he frowned as he shook her off.
“Baby, why are you being so cold?” my mother asked in a soft voice, and I rolled my eyes, but Brian seemed pissed off. For a moment, I thought he had heard what we were talking about, and my heart was beating with anticipation of what it might be.
“Come in,” Brian commanded as the maid stepped into the room, her head bowed in deference.
