Chapter 67. The Aisle

Brian stood still as I left him halfway down the aisle and walked toward Lucas on my own. The murmurs increased as Brian remained frozen, shock evident on his face.

As soon as I stood before Lucas, I gently placed my hands in his. I had never felt so excited; it felt like blood was rushing through my veins because of what I had just done. The church erupted in uproar as Brian recovered from the shock and walked out.

“What the fuck are you playing at?” Lucas growled, glaring at me.

“I just expressed my joy at leaving that family, that’s all. I didn’t know it would shock him this much. Forgive me,” I said. Lucas’s eyes narrowed at me, but he didn’t say a word.

The ceremony began, but my mind raced with what would happen now that I had told Brian. I looked into Lucas’s eyes as he watched me intently.
