Chapter 69. A Mother’s Greed
She screamed, and before she could get to me, Maria held her back as she stretched out her hands, trying to reach me.
I stood up immediately and took a step back from her in horror as she glared at me—furious and enraged. Even her dress looked torn and disheveled, and she stared at me with pure hate and anger.
“What is the meaning of this, Susan?” Maria yelled at her in anger, and she glared back. The woman had never liked my mother, and she never bothered to hide it. The way she spoke to her was unlike anything I had ever heard before.
“Let me go. Let me teach that witch a lesson she will never forget,” she hissed, struggling against Maria’s grip.
“You are indeed above your station to behave like an animal. A woman like you is the lowest of the low and not to be seen with us. Get out of this room at once with this madness of yours
