Chapter 6. You Can Walk
Nyla’s POV
It felt like a knife cut through me, a reminder of the sacrifices I have to make just for my dad. ‘Just me and you.’
“I have signed the contract, Athena,” I said to a chestnut-beautiful woman who had reminded me of the confidentiality. Never slip off my tongue.
I was careful with my words, leaving my cousin and Mama T stunned and silent as I walked away without a word or a trace.
I spent many sleepless nights, tossing and turning in bed, sometimes waking up with sweat trickling down the back of my neck.
On that same final day, tears welled up in my eyes as I watched my father behind bars. ‘He is dead,’ I announced, delivering the grim news.
