It was already late in the afternoon when she woke up. She opened her eyes and saw me sitting close to the bed, watching her. As soon as I saw her eyes open, I began to trace kisses all over her face, down to her neck and even her shoulders.

I looked at her tenderly, “It was all my fault. I made you do that and it almost took your life.”

“Don’t be hard on yourself, Kaelan. I wanted to help.”

“But I almost lost you.”

I leaned forward, and in that moment, my lips found hers, capturing her in a kiss that was fierce and tender. My arms enveloped her, and she melted into my arms, letting the strength of my love strengthen her.

Later that evening, once Everly had regained some strength, I decided she needed a distraction—a moment of peace after the chaos.

I drove her to the most upscale restaurant in town. She wore a simple yet elegant dress that hugged her body so perfectly. Her natural beauty stole my breath every time I looked at her.
