Chapter 55. Disheartening News

Emily's POV

The day started like any other. I was going about my routine, thinking about my music studies and my part-time work. I never expected what happened next. That was the moment my phone rang, piercing through the calm. It was a number I recognized even though it had been a long time since I'd seen it.

It was the hospital, and the fact that they were really calling made my heart jump as I thought about what this could mean. So many things ran through my mind as I wondered what the problem could be. I couldn't think of any except my father.

Or was Berton in hospital again? Another thought jumped in, scaring the hell out of me. I always knew, whenever they called, that it wouldn't be good news. I made my way towards the phone in the center table, not knowing if to answer or not. I feared what I could hear.

The speculations kept jumping into my mind and I decided to finally pick up the phone and answer.
