Erian looked at the papers on his desk, hoping to keep his growing restlessness at bay now that she was quiet; what could she be thinking? He didn’t like, in the least, the idea that she was suspecting the idea of getting away from him; that thought didn’t bring a sense of the great emptiness in his chest.
He calculated that once he convinced Charlotte to stay, he would have the time he needed to work on the hunter issue. Despite her protests, he didn’t think it would be that difficult to convince her to claim that the man had kidnapped her...after all, it was in her own best interest as well.
