The aftermath.

Elara’s POV

One second, her hands were warm on my face; the next, they were ice-cold. Kieran’s mother’s eyes rolled back, and her body went completely limp, her knees buckling. If Kieran hadn’t been right there, she would have collapsed onto the ground.

“Mother!”

Kieran’s roar was pure panic. Saffron screamed her name at the same time. He scooped her up into his arms as if she weighed nothing, his face a mask of terror.

“Mira!” he bellowed, his voice echoing across the now-silent clearing. “Get to the infirmary! Now!”

Mira was already moving, her face set in a look of grim focus. “On my way, Alpha! Get her there quickly!”

Kieran didn’t need to be told twice. He took off at a run, cradling his mother against his chest. Saffron was right on his heels, tears streaming down her face.
