Chapter 52
“My people, please be at peace!” Mark intoned formally. The babble of the crowd dwindled as all the guys grew to become tolook at him and the humans that now stood to either aspect of him, their faces grim, eyes scanning the crowd as if they were staring at for trouble.
And one, Amelia noticed, the greatest of the two guys, who stood just a foot or so away from these that bracketed Mark, had his hand on the gun in a holster at his waist.
Amelia saw it then… how the humans looked to these men—these Chimera. She was reminded of Oska's insistence on searching for a fight—except the man subsequent to Mark regarded like he was looking for a cause to shoot people.
