Chapter 5
I was in shock. I did not know what being that man’s mate could possibly mean. However, it must have been a title that gave me some power because all the others, who seemed inclined to kill me, began to respect my presence as they led me to them.
I had no idea where they were taking me. I would not be able just to run away. They had sharp hearing and were aware of my every step. It was clear that they could also detect the change in my scent—the smell of fear and despair, I imagined.
“Take that,” someone said abruptly. I turned to see what a male was offering me in his hands. It seemed to be a harmless handful of fruit. “You seem hungry.”
I made a grimace, trying not to appear impolite.
“Don’t worry. I brought some sandwiches.”
The male clicked his tongue, earning a sharp look from the man who had captured me earlier. Clearly, they were trying to make me feel a little more comfortable in their presence.
