Chapter 6
I tried to protest, but the group silenced me instantly, cutting off my words. Soon, I heard heavy footsteps approaching. A group, armed to the teeth, emerged from the darkness, led by a woman. Alpha Randall growled, his gaze filled with anger.
“What do you think you’re doing?!” he barked.
The woman advanced, her focus fixed on me.
I tried to place her face. Over the years, I’d thought all humans began to look alike in some way. Living together in isolation, it was easy to assume they procreated with little regard for kinship.
But this woman had such striking and beautiful features that no one could mistake her for someone else. Her body, however, was dirty and covered in scars. It would be stupid to think she hadn’t lived on this side of the border for years. Even the weapons her people carried were outdated. I wondered how a human had survived long enough to bear those scars and harden herself like that.
“You took one of ours,” she said in a low voice
