Chapter 14
Josephine’s POV
Elle arrived first. Brooklyn trotted behind her with a long face, probably discouraged from hastening in her footsteps after she saw me.
I shifted uncomfortably away from Face. We’d been sitting on the same side of the booth before Elle and Brooklyn arrived, so that meant our bodies occasionally rubbed on each other.
Brooklyn’s displeasure at seeing us together was beginning to make sense to me. I remembered the introduction Elle had given me about her and the conversation I overheard Tave having with Elle about her earlier in the room, and just like that, I realized that Brooklyn and I were not going to get on well moving forward.
“Hey,” I said, greeting Elle casually. “Uhm… I didn’t know you were going to come to eat here today.”
I wanted to add that I didn’t see her at the Creative Arts class, which she mentioned was compulsory for everyone, but I decided against it. That would come later.
