Chapter 17
Josephine’s POV
I don’t know if it was me or something about the open field that suddenly got more fun. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that I was now accompanied by a man. A man who I found cute.
I was walking slowly now, biding my time. Alex tagged along, following my pace.
“You’re beautiful,” he said after we’d walked in silence for a while.
I smiled. “Thank you.”
He peered closer at my face like he was just noticing my smile for the first time and said, “You’ve got a killer smile. And your glasses look cute on you. What’s the eye defect?”
“Myopia,” I said, adjusting my glasses. “Started when I was a child.”
“Oh,” Alex said sympathetically, “Sorry about that.”
“Thank you.”
The rest of the walk was done in silence. When we got to the edge of the field, Alex glanced at his wristwatch. The expression on his face changed suddenly. He looked up at me and blew some air out of his mouth.
