Chapter 19
Josephine’s POV
Tave was quiet for a long moment after his mother had left, and for some reason, I thought that was odd. He definitely owed me a lot of explanations, like why his mother was so quick to assume that I was his girlfriend and why he urged me to agree immediately. So, I asked the question straight away. I was not ready for the answer I got.
“I told her the last time we spoke over the phone that I was done with Brooklyn and that I met a new girl who is much more responsible. She naturally thought you were the one I was talking about when she saw us together.” He sighed. “You see, my mother never liked Brooklyn. She thought she was much too, I dunno, bad for me.”
I was taken aback by his explanation. “She knows you’re bad for anyone, too, right?”
Tave smiled slowly. “Why would you say that?”
I ignored the question. “So, we both know we’re not a couple, and you just lied to your mother. What are you going to do about it?”
