Chapter 28. A Reason to Get Married
“Sha, calm down! You can’t just make rash decisions like this,” Sam said, taking the suitcase from my hand and pulling me into the living room.
He called the housekeeper, who usually just cooks and cleans, to sit with Noah while he slept. It was only for one night, so she wouldn’t mind—Sam would definitely slip her some overtime pay.
I slumped on the living room couch, Sam staring at me without blinking. I couldn’t meet his eyes. This time, I’d almost screwed up big by trying to bolt while my job agreement with his family was still active.
“What’s going on? Come on, tell me what’s wrong,” Sam said, his voice steadier now.
I swallowed hard, my body still shaking, terrified at the thought of Uncle Vincent sneaking around Noah, touching my boy behind my back. What had he done to Noah? What if that man already knew Noah was his son?
“Sasha, you can explain it slowly,” Sam said, snapping me out of my spiral.
