Chapter 30. The Argument
“What do you mean?” I snapped, panic surging. “You’re gonna take my son?”
“Noah’s my son too, isn’t he?” Vincent’s words hit like a punch, leaving me trembling. He knew.
“Don’t joke around!” I hissed, denying it to my last breath. “I was on birth control when we were together. Noah’s not yours!”
A waiter clearing their throat snapped me and Vincent back to reality—every eye in the restaurant was on us. We exchanged a glance, both softening our expressions.
“This is what happens when you don’t go to the restaurant I wanted,” Vincent muttered, his face as red as mine. We were both mortified.
Vincent quickly settled our untouched meals and, in a flash, paid for everyone’s food to apologize for the scene we caused. Rich guy, huh? If someone threw money around like that for good causes, they could probably end poverty in this country.
“Thanks, man!” a college kid said, surrounded by his study group.
