I heard raised voices from downstairs and went to investigate, only to hear Damon's father telling him to remarry me. My heart sank as I listened to Damon's response - that he had already divorced me and it was final. I couldn't bear the thought of being trapped in a loveless marriage again, and tears filled my eyes.

Damon's mother entered the room and calmed his father down, but my attention was drawn to her words to Damon. She told him to obey his father and stay married to me, adding that she hated me and that was exactly why she wanted us to stay together.
